Transition to High School
Reconnect
Through the Reconnect program, young Indigenous students are supported to make the transition to High School, develop confidence and motivation to remain in school, and start to develop a dream for a productive future.
Participants attend weekly skills workshops, after-school activities, and excursions to regional centres, all aimed at inspiring a sense of future and building motivation to make the most of their schooling opportunities.
Transition
Reconnect is designed to assist young people in Year 7 at secondary school who are at risk of homelessness, poor attendance at school or leaving school early. By delivering constant individual mentoring and personalised assessment of needs, interests, skills and vocational aspirations, Reconnect helps to address needs and concerns as well as providing the encouragement to develop a dream for the future. Reconnect promotes the importance of finding the motivation to make the most of the opportunities school provides.
Rapid Growth
This program has seen rapid growth through strong support from various partnerships within the communities of Bourke and Brewarrina. Strong networks have formed between the local High Schools, TAFE, Indigenous Elders, community members and local business owners.
With participant numbers steadily increasing, the weekly workshops have proven to be inspirational and have been the vehicle that encourages others to join the program.
