Congratulations go to...
Centacare staff and partners involved in the Communities for Children initiative.
Around 3,000 people attended the fun-packed Kids at Heart Festival held in Dubbo on Saturday, October 25, a major event within this initiative. A highly successful day was capped off with Communities for Children receiving the Orana Regional Award for Community Service at an evening award ceremony in Bourke.
Judges felt Communities for Children met the criteria for the regional Community Owned Business and Government Services Award by demonstrating a significant impact since its inception, noting the diverse ways in which the team have been able to meet the aims of the project; the networks and partnerships that have been developed; the commitment and flexibility required in making Communities for Children work in each local community; and the energy and enthusiasm for the project.
Recently also awarded the Community Owned / Government Award at the Narromine High Flyers Business Awards, the Communities for Children initiative has been recognised for providing outstanding community services and support. Part of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy funded by the Australian Government, Communities for Children is operated in partnership with Centacare for Dubbo, Narromine and Wellington Shires.
Centacare's Narromine team was also presented with the Organisation Service Award at the 2008 NAIDOC Awards ceremony held at Narromine Shire Council Chambers in September. Centacare's Alicia Powell was recognised in the same ceremony, receiving the Junior Leadership Award. The inaugural Aboriginal Community Awards aimed to recognise local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians for outstanding contributions to their community.
